Inspired by two of Andersen’s tales as well as some episodes of the famous author’s life, Lepage explores the territories of sexual identity, of unfulfilled fantasies and of the author’s thirst for recognition that runs through his life and work. The book comes with a wonderful DVD which reveals parts of the creation process of the play and scenes that were not used in the final version. Robert Lepage, among other things, elaborates on the adaptations of the play in other countries.
